Emergency Actions

The Volunteer Program of Viva Rio has logistic and mobilization capabilities which makes it apt for rapid responses in case of urgent needs, as during the 2011 floods affecting the regions of Rio and Serra Fluminense, and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Seven containers with hospital and hygiene material, clothes, furniture, computers and non-perishable food were sent to Haiti. During Serra Fluminense’s tragedy, the program mobilized almost 180 volunteers per day and, along with the Military Police of Rio de Janeiro State, worked to ensure that the donations reached their destination safely.
