Family Health Strategy Harm Reduction

The Centers for Psychosocial Care (Centro de Atenção Psicosocial) administered by Viva Rio are mental health care services that substitute psychiatric hospitalization.

 Viva Rio is responsible for four CAPS in Rio de Janeiro, in partnership with the City Department of Health. Units are located in Rocinha (CAPS III Maria do Socorro Santos), the Complexo do Alemão (CAPS III João Ferreira Silva Filho) Bonsucesso (CAPS ad III Miriam Makeba) and Guadalupe (CAPS II Linda Batista). CAPS primarily serve adults with severe and persistent mental disorders.

 The CAPSad serve users of alcohol and other drugs of all ages. The CAPSad III Miriam Makeba operates 24 hours daily, offering continuous clinical care and night care. Its interdisciplinary team works open doors (there is no need for referral), offers several individual and collective activities and promotes the autonomy of the individual and their social reintegration.
